{"id":"22.1","chapter":22,"number":1,"text":"Unfained Repentance, is an inward and true sorrow of heart for Sin, with sincere confession of the same to God, especially that we have offended so gracious a God, and so loving a Father; together with a settled purpose of Heart, and a careful endeavour to leave all our sins and to live a more holy and sanctified Life, according to all God’s Commands. Or it is a turning, or change of the whole Man to God, with endeavour through his Grace, to mortifie the indwelling Lust, or Corruptions, and obtain a great reformation both in the outward and inward Man, according to the Will of God; and this Repentance, for the nature of it, must be continued throughout the whole course of our Lives, as is wrought in us by the Spirit of God, by the Ministry of the Law and Gospel, in order to our obedience to Christ, or being Baptized in his Name, but this Repentance unto Life is not wrought without Faith in the Soul; for by Faith we receive that Grace that perfects, or carrieth on the Work of Repentance in the Soul from first to last.","segments":[{"text":"Unfained Repentance, is an inward and true sorrow of heart for Sin,","proofs":["Titus 2:3–5","Acts 2:37–38","2 Corinthians 7:10–11","Acts 17:30"],"refs":[{"printed":"Titus 2:3–5","osis":["Titus.2.3-Titus.2.5"]},{"printed":"Acts 2:37–38","osis":["Acts.2.37-Acts.2.38"]},{"printed":"2 Corinthians 7:10–11","osis":["2Cor.7.10-2Cor.7.11"]},{"printed":"Acts 17:30","osis":["Acts.17.30"]}],"note":null},{"text":"with sincere confession of the same to God, especially that we have offended so gracious a God, and so loving a Father;","proofs":["Psalm 51:4","Luke 15:17–19"],"refs":[{"printed":"Psalm 51:4","osis":["Ps.51.4"]},{"printed":"Luke 15:17–19","osis":["Luke.15.17-Luke.15.19"]}],"note":null},{"text":"together with a settled purpose of Heart, and a careful endeavour to leave all our sins and to live a more holy and sanctified Life, according to all God’s Commands.","proofs":["Ezekiel 18:30","Ephesians 2:10"],"refs":[{"printed":"Ezekiel 18:30","osis":["Ezek.18.30"]},{"printed":"Ephesians 2:10","osis":["Eph.2.10"]}],"note":null},{"text":"Or it is a turning, or change of the whole Man to God, with endeavour through his Grace, to mortifie the indwelling Lust, or Corruptions,","proofs":["Romans 8:13","Ephesians 4:20–32"],"refs":[{"printed":"Romans 8:13","osis":["Rom.8.13"]},{"printed":"Ephesians 4:20–32","osis":["Eph.4.20-Eph.4.32"]}],"note":null},{"text":"and obtain a great reformation both in the outward and inward Man, according to the Will of God; and this Repentance, for the nature of it, must be continued throughout the whole course of our Lives,","proofs":["John 8:31–32, 35"],"refs":[{"printed":"John 8:31–32, 35","osis":["John.8.31-John.8.32","John.8.35"]}],"note":null},{"text":"as is wrought in us by the Spirit of God, by the Ministry of the Law and Gospel,","proofs":["Romans 8:13","1 Thessalonians 1:5–6"],"refs":[{"printed":"Romans 8:13","osis":["Rom.8.13"]},{"printed":"1 Thessalonians 1:5–6","osis":["1Thess.1.5-1Thess.1.6"]}],"note":null},{"text":"in order to our obedience to Christ, or being Baptized in his Name,","proofs":["Acts 3:19, 26","2:38"],"refs":[{"printed":"Acts 3:19, 26","osis":["Acts.3.19","Acts.3.26"]},{"printed":"2:38","osis":["Acts.2.38"]}],"note":null},{"text":"but this Repentance unto Life is not wrought without Faith in the Soul;","proofs":["Hebrews 11:6"],"refs":[{"printed":"Hebrews 11:6","osis":["Heb.11.6"]}],"note":null},{"text":"for by Faith we receive that Grace that perfects, or carrieth on the Work of Repentance in the Soul from first to last.","proofs":["Galatians 3:26–28"],"refs":[{"printed":"Galatians 3:26–28","osis":["Gal.3.26-Gal.3.28"]}],"note":null}],"relations":{},"diffs":[],"page":"30","leaf":54}
