Killing of Beasts on the Sabbath, to prepare meat for the Munday Market. 2. Plowing, Sowing, gathering in Corn, making Hay while the Sun shines, and the Weather best serveth on the Sabbath day. 3. Selling of Fruit, or any other Wares on the Sabbath day, when there may be most custome for them. 4. Selling or buying of Fish on the Sabbath, which in hot weather might stink if kept until the Munday. These and the like worldly employments we are to forbear, by vertue of this Commandment, they being our own works; and whatever loss we may seem to sustain by such forbearance, be sure it is not comparable unto the loss of Gods favour, and the wounding of our Conscience, and the loss of our Souls for ever, which will be the fruit of living in the breach of Gods Law. And if such works as these must be forborn on the Sabbath, much more such works of our Calling, as may be done on the week day as well as on the Sabbath, In those days saw I in Judah, some treading Wine-presses on the Sabbath, and bringing in Sheaves, and lading Asses; as also Wine, Grapes, and Figs, and all manner of burdens, which they brought into Jerusalem on the Sabbath day; and I testified against them in the day wherein they sold Victuals. There dwelt men in Tyre also therein, which brought Fish, and all manner of Ware, and sold, on the Sabbath, unto the Children of Judah, and in Jerusalem. Then I contended with the Nobles of Judah, and said unto them, what evil thing is this that ye do, and profane the Sabbath day? Did not your Fathers thus? and did not our God bring all this evil upon us, and upon this City? Yet ye bring more wrath upon Israel by profaning the Sabbath.","proofs":["Nehemiah 13:15–18"]}]},{"document":"beddome1752","id":"62","url":"/api/v1/documents/beddome1752/entries/62","segments":[{"text":"I saw some lading asses on the Sabbath day and I testified against them,","proofs":["Nehemiah 13:15"]}]},{"document":"beddome1752","id":"65","url":"/api/v1/documents/beddome1752/entries/65","segments":[{"text":"I testified against them in the day that they sold victuals,","proofs":["Nehemiah 13:15"]}]},{"document":"dickson1684","id":"20","url":"/api/v1/documents/dickson1684/entries/20","segments":[{"text":"Of","proofs":["Nehemiah 13:15, 17"]}]},{"document":"dickson1684","id":"21","url":"/api/v1/documents/dickson1684/entries/21","segments":[{"text":"Yes.","proofs":["Nehemiah 13:15–16, 18–19, 21–22"]}]},{"document":"dickson1684","id":"21","url":"/api/v1/documents/dickson1684/entries/21","segments":[{"text":"See","proofs":["Nehemiah 13:15–23"]}]}]}
