API: GET /api/v1/documents/alleine1672/entries/33

What is Justification?

Justification is an act of Gods free grace, wherein he pardoneth all our sins, and accepteth us as righteous in his sight, only for the righteousness of Christ imputed to us, and received by faith alone.

Whose act is Justication?

Gods.

Is it because of something in us moving him thereunto that he doth justifie us?

No.

What is the moving cause then of our Justification?

Gods free Grace.

What doth God do for us in Justifying us?

Pardon our sins.

What sins?

All our sins.

What else doth he do for us in Justifying us?

Accepts as righteous

How? in the sight of men, or of God?

In the sight of God.

Doth then the justification of a sinner lie in Gods pardoning of his sin, and accepting of his person as righteous?

Yes.

For what is it that God doth pardon and accept us as Righteous?

For the righteousness of Christ:

Is it not for some merits, or satisfaction of ours, in part at least, that God doth pardon our sins, and accept us righteous?

No, But [only] for the Righteousness of Christ.

What is necessary on Gods part for making this righteousness of his, ours?

His imputing it to us.

What do you mean by his imputing righteousness to us?

His accounting it ours.

What is necessary on our part to the making of this righteousnesse of Christ ours?

Our receiving it.

How is this righteousness received by us?

By Faith.

Are we not justified by our works then?

No.

But by Faith alone?

Yes.

How and why by Faith alone?

As that grace which alone receiveth the righteousness of Christ.
