1. Faith is an Act of the Understanding,a giving a firm Assent to the things contained in the Holy Scriptures.b But Justifying Faith is a Grace, or Habit, wrought in the Soul,c by the Holy Ghost,d through preaching the Word of God, whereby we are enabled to believe,e not only that the Messias is offered to us, but also to take and receive him as a Lord and Saviour,f and wholly and only to rest upon Christ, for Grace and Eternal Salvation.g
