1. In the Beginning it pleased God the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost, according to his eternal and immutable Decree, for the manifestation of the Glory of his eternal Power, Wisdom, and Goodness,a to Create, or make out of nothingb the World, and all things therein, whether Visible, or Invisible,c and created Man Male and Female,d with a fleshly Body, and a Reasonable (and Invisible, or Spiritual, Angelical, and Immortal) Soul,e made after the Image of God,f in Knowledge, Righteousness, and true Holiness, having the Law written in his Heart,g and power or liberty of Will to fulfil it;h yet mutable, or under a possibility of Transgressing,i being left to the liberty of their own Will, which was subject to change; and also gave them command not to eat of the Tree of Knowledg of Good and Evil;j and while they kept this Command, they enjoyed most happy Communion with God, and had Dominion over the Creatures: And all this wonderful Work of Creation, both in Heaven and in Earth, was finished in the space of Six Days,k and all very good.l And although Reason cannot conceive nor comprehend it, yet God’s Word hath plainly revealed it, and Faith believes it.
